The Black water Falls are located on Black water River in Tucker County, near the town of Davis, West Virginia. The dark, tumbling waters plunge almost 60 feet over resistant sandstone of the Pennsylvanian Age, creating one of the most photographed sights in the state. The falls are accessible from steps, and several viewing platforms allow visitors to enjoy the falls year-round. 45 acres of pristine mountain views into the Black water Canyon provide one of the one of the most famous views in all of West Virginia. The walk out to Lindy Point is no more than a third of a mile along a relatively level path. The trail passes through dense rhododendron and can be quite muddy if there has been rain. At the end of the trail, you will come out to a platform built onto the side of the rocky cliff. The point offers a spectacular view of the Blackwater Canyon. A nature trail near the park lodge leads to the more distant Lindy Point overlook, affording an excellent view south into the Canyon. There are several places that you can crawl through the rhododendron to stand directly on the rocks for a better view. Lindy Point near Davis, West Virginia, provides a dynamic view in several directions. There are only four parking places at the entrance to Lindy Point so it would appear they don’t expect many visitors, but surprisingly several people were met on the trail. It is among the most photographed venues in the state and appears on calendars, stationery, advertisements of all kinds and, most famously, on jigsaw puzzles. The River is named for its tannic acid-darkened water.
