You won't find a more relaxed and casual destinations, where you can get back to nature or experience true adventure. There is very little sunlight here. The thick green forest canopy, which might as well be in the clouds for how high it is, blocks most natural light from reaching the floor. The effect is stunning. An endless twilight as hundreds of towering Californian redwoods reach skyward, like a bunch of busy city cranes in the middle of a property boom. This isn't the coast of northern California. It is the Otway Ranges in western Victorian, thousands of kilometers from the redwoods' natural home. The Great Otway National Park stretches from Torquay through to Princetown and up through the Otways hinterland towards Colac. The park features rugged coastlines, sandy beaches, rock platforms and windswept heathland. In the north, the park features tall forests, ferny gullies, magnificent waterfalls and tranquil lakes. Planted as a softwood logging experiment in the 1930s, their initial growth was slow but eventually, they started to shoot upwards at a rapid rate. The trees were never cut down and have now grown to a height of about 60 meters. Driving through the rainforest you can feel the cool, clean air in every breath. Many walking trails lead to spectacular crashing waterfalls and there are also a myriad of trails suitable for mountain biking.
