Red Canyon Snow

Red Canyon Snow The Red Canyon Visitor Center is located just off Highway 12 en route to Bryce Canyon National Park amid the spectacular red sandstone spires and formations. This area has been called the "most photographed place in Utah". It is easy to see why, with the brilliant red soil contrasted with the green pines. Red Canyon, a shallow valley in the side of the Paunsaugunt Plateau surrounded by much exposed, orange red limestone. The rocks are eroded into the familiar pinnacles, spires, columns and hoodoos also found in the national park a few miles to the east, here on a smaller scale and with less color variation, and although the main road is quite busy, most visitors hurry on to Bryce without stopping, and the areas away from the highway are usually quiet and empty. The highway through Red Canyon runs alongside a usually dry wash, far side of which has a newly resurfaced cycle track. Besides cycling, the canyon is also good for hiking. Trails in Red Canyon are open year round. When snow-covered some of the trails are perfect for touring on cross-country skis or snowshoes. Seasonal displays show the area's flowers, birds, trees and geology. There are permanent displays of area features as well. Other services include trip planning and interpretive programs. There are nature hikes, solar viewing, evening star programs and photography programs.
