And at night the world shifts back again, dead silent in some spots yet bustling in others, with new and old restaurants and bars straining to grab the attention of customers. Much has chung since 1971, when the modern harbor was built, but it remains a blend of timeless ocean activities and modern retail. If a $150 million renovation happens in September, as planned, it’ll change yet again. The line starts before sunrise: men and women, poles in hand, hoping for a spot on Sum Fun, a day charter run by Dana Wharf Sport fishing. The boat brings together crew and anglers with a shared passion – the ocean. In mid-February, boats at Dana Harbor usually run only a few days a week, and they’re lucky to get 10 fishermen. But warm water this season means local anglers can chase yellow tail, typically a summer fish in Orange County.
