Sedona Arizona Canvas Prints

Sedona Arizona Canvas Prints Sedona main attraction is its array of red sandstone formations. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The red rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails. The famous red rocks of Sedona are formed by a layer of rock known as the Schnebly Hill Formation. The Schnebly Hill Formation is a thick layer of red to orange-colored sandstone found only in the Sedona vicinity. The sandstone, a member of the Supai Group, was deposited during the Permian Period. On a map of the red-rock country surrounding Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon in north central Arizona, Schnebly Hill Road looks much like any other meandering drive through the region. Inland, a countermarching desert produced criss-crossing fields of shifting sand dunes, which were inundated with each return of the sea. Over time, the sea and the desert, in an epic contest for the land, produced a complex mosaic of geologic formations as colorful as a painter’s palette. Located two hours north of Phoenix, and 30 miles south of the Flagstaff peaks, Sedona’s mild four-season climate and high desert terrain assure good year-round weather for vacationers and outdoor enthusiasts. Oak Creek Canyon, a spectacular 16-mile gorge with streams and waterfalls between sheer rock walls, beckons hikers, campers and fishermen. Exploring Sedonas beautiful red rock country beyond the pavement is a time-honored tradition.
