Complete with a first-aid room, central air conditioning, emergency phone, restrooms and large windows with powerful scopes for surveillance, the tower is manned daily with lifeguards who watch over Huntington City Beaches. There is a 360 degree view of Huntington Beach and the neighboring beaches. Tower Zero is kind of the epicenter for lifeguards on the beach, assisting in communication, in rescue procedures and helping distribute resources. There are usually two people staffing the tower from 10 am to about 6 p.m. Then it goes down to one person before and after that time. The purpose of this tower is a communications center that is away from Lifeguard Headquarters. Huntington State Beach is located in the City of Huntington Beach in Orange County. The 121 acre state beach is a popular destination for water enthusiasts of all ages and draws hundreds of thousands of visitors year round. Huntington in a great place to surf, swim, sunbathe, fish or just watch the sun set. Average summer temperatures range in the high 70s, while winter brings slightly cooler mid-60-degree weather. Morning fog is common. There are volleyball courts, basketball courts, fire-rings for bonfires and a multi-use trail. A paved beachside trail runs for 8.5 miles between Huntington and Bolsa Chica State Beaches, with the 3.5-mile Huntington City Beach wedged between them. Huntington Beach Events features a full calendar of events with hundreds of events and things to do. Some are available every day of the year. At the beach you can surf, watch birds at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands nature trails, jog, bicycle or skate on the 8.5 mile path that parallels the beach, yet staying off the busy Pacific Coast Highway.
