Find your spot on the golden arc of sand and let your eyes drift over the shimmering waters of Folsom Lake. Beach lovers and families can have a great day away from the city without the trouble of the long drive to the coast. Granite Bay Beach is located within the grounds of Folsom Lake State Recreation Area, just 25 miles east of Sacramento. Water sports are everywhere at Granite Bay Beach. During summer the water is warm, you can swim safely in a large, buoyed area watched over by lifeguards. Looking out onto the water you will see sailboats, water skiers, kayakers and windsurfers. If you feel like joining them, head to the snack bar, where you will find a range of water sports equipment to rent. Try your hand at windsurfing or take a gentle tour in a canoe. Those who want to go a bit faster should take a Jet Ski for a spin. There are also paddle boats for a more sedate cruise around the lake. Granite Bay is one of Folsom Lakes most developed areas, on the northwestern side of the lake. The bay has a broad sandy beach and a marked swimming area with a lifeguard during peak season, which is typically Memorial Day to Labor Day. Visitors can enjoy a barbecue and sit in the shade during hot summer months. A snack bar sells food but also rents beach equipment, including boats, canoes and even jet skis that can be launched from the boat ramp. Disabled travelers can check out a beach wheelchair for up to two hours, a drivers license is required.
