Murray River Mannum

Murray River Mannum Set on the broad reaches of the Lower Murray, Mannum is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Adelaide via the South Eastern Freeway or the scenic route through Gumercha, Birdwood and Palmer. Mannum enjoys some of the best cruising waters on the entire Murray system and a number of houseboat operations are based in the town. There are many tourist and native walks in and around Mannum. Just past the ferry and caravan park is a peaceful bird sanctuary with great picnic grounds. On the outskirts of the town the nature lover will discover the magnificent Mannum Waterfalls. The falls generally flow in winter and it's not recommended you walk from Mannum township in summer. As the Murray carves its way through our sun-burnt and contrasting landscape you will discover a new part of the world that is not overrun with tourists and will allow you time to reconnect with yourself, family and friends. Mannum is a historic town on the west bank of the Murray River in South Australia. The Murray is the third longest navigable river in the world, after the Amazon and Nile. The Murray is continuously navigable for 1986 kilometres from Goolwa to Yarrawonga. Along with its tributaries, the Murray is part of the third largest water catchment on earth. The water of the Murray flows through several lakes that fluctuate in salinity including Lake Alexandrina and The Coorong before emptying through the Murray Mouth into the southeastern portion of the Indian Ocean, often referenced on Australian maps as the Southern Ocean.
