Capitola Beach is located in the heart of Capitola village with its many shops and restaurants. Lots of swimming, surfing, volleyball, kite flying and beach activities for the whole family. Capitola Beach has been voted a favorite and written up in many magazines as one of the top ten beaches on the west coast. There are dozens of great surfing spots along the coast near Capitola. Summer swell tends to be smaller than winter. Parking can be difficult on busy summer days in Capitola. Knowing where to park can save you a lot of time and aggravation. Either use the free parking lot or bring lots of quarters. Residential areas close to Capitola village are restricted to permit parking only. Tame waves usually make Capitola a great place to play in the surf, to try your skill at stand up paddle boarding, to skim board, swim, and kayak. Rip currents are always a danger on any California beach and occasionally a shift in the wind can bring in larger breakers. Capitola village merges so smoothly into the beach that one cannot really be separated from the other. Visitors meander back and forth between village and beach, often taking a break for refreshments in a nearby restaurant before returning to the sand. The wharf attracts anglers and sightseers.
