Hanalei Bridge Canvas Prints
The one lane Hanalei Bridge is a nostalgic and much loved entry into the quaint town of Hanalei and the often celebrated Hanalei Bay. One of Kauai’s most recognizable man-made landmarks, the original 113 foot American made through-truss steel bridge. When you cross the Hanalei River now, you’re on an exact replica of the 1912 bridge. U.S. Senator Daniel Inouye rededicated the new Hanalei Bridge in 2003 after a long battle that stopped the replacement of the 91 year old bridge with a modern concrete structure. One of Kauai’s most treasured landmarks is the Hanalei Bridge and its history provides a glimpse into the island’s storied past. Hanalei Bridge is still just a one lane bridge and thus it requires Kauai’s north shore drivers to exercise some courtesy in taking turns crossing. Many a shake sign and wave of aloha is shared on each side of the bridge as the drivers pass by each other after crossing. Once The Hanalei Bridge is crossed, the north shore driver enters a realm of one-way bridges. Seven bridges must be crossed to arrive at "the end of the road". Both sides of each bridge have yield signs. The Hanalei Bridge spans the Hanalei River at the bottom of a Hanalei Valley Road, now known as Route 560, which started as a trail down to the valley floor around 1885, an alternative to the steep winding switchback trail that wound its way down the hill.
