Located in Leucadia, Beacons Beach is probably best known for its surfing. Surfers are willing to walk up and down the bluff trail to get to the waves. Beacons view point, near what used to be Martini Point, before Martini Point slid 100 feet down to the beach below. Beacons Beach is located in North San Diego County, north of Del Mar, Solana Beach and Cardiff, south of Oceanside and Carlsbad, in Encinitas. Beacons Beach is hidden below a tall ocean bluffs, making it a secluded haven for surfers and other beach goers. At the top of the bluff is a parking lot with a dirt trail winding down the side of the cliff. Swimming, surfing, walking, jogging, fishing and picnicking are popular activities at Beacons Beach. A reef is located off Beacons, which makes the beach a nice surf spot. The beach is very secluded and can be the starting point of a nice hike up or down the coast during low tide. Beacons beach is a few blocks from downtown Leucadia and N. Coast Hwy 101. Moonlight Beach is about 1.4 miles to the south and South Ponto about the same distance to the north in Carlsbad. Beacons Beach attracts mainly local visitors. Although it is Leucadia’s main beach, it is hidden in a neighborhood and not easily reachable. But if you are looking for a beach that is secluded and has relatively few people, with superb walking and jogging, this might just be the place is for you.
