Spruce Forest Rolled Canvas Prints

Spruce Forest Rolled Canvas Prints Sitka spruce, is a large coniferous evergreen tree growing to almost 100 m and with a trunk diameter at breast height that can exceed 5 m. It is by far the largest species of spruce and the fifth largest conifer in the world, behind giant sequoia, coast redwood, kauri and western redcedar and the third tallest conifer species. The Sitka spruce is few species documented to reach 91 metres feet in height. It acquires its name from the community of Sitka, Alaska. In a State blessed with many giant tree specimens of all species, this coastal Sitka Spruce was the Champ. Sitka spruce forests dominated the fog-shrouded coast, western hemlock, and seral Douglas-fir blanketed the inland areas. Today, Douglas-fir plantations are prevalent on the intensively logged and managed landscape. Mature forests in the region are dominated by a canopy of Sitka spruce, western hemlock, and Douglas-fir, with salal, sword fern, vine maple, and Oregon grape in the shrub layer. The Uplands region roughly corresponds with the historic distribution of Sitka spruce. After extensive logging, most of the Sitka spruce is gone, and today the forests are dominated by Douglas-fir and western hemlock, with a shrub layer of salal, sword fern, vine maple, Oregon grape, rhododendron, and evergreen blueberry. The Sitka Spruce is named after a place called Sitka in Alaska although its natural range is all along the coast of NW America. Beautiful stands of Sitka spruce frame our coastline, adding to its beauty and mystique. Its wood is very strong for its weight, which has led to its many specialty uses in aircraft frames, racing shells, ladders and folding bleachers.
