The ocean can be both inviting and intimidating. Capturing it is dynamic personality expressed in waves is an interesting challenge. Position and timing are everything. Those two things require a lot of knowledge, experience and a little bit of luck. Waves are created by motion on the water, due to wind or other natural forces, while tides are due to the gravity of the moon. Waves are very popular with surfers and beachgoers, but also with photographers because the motion adds a great contrast to the skies and sand. The breath-taking images show the split-second in which each one breaks and crashes on to the sand. The stillness of the sea is broken up by the force of the waves, lifted up by the moon's gravity. Churning up the golden sands, a wave breaks upon the shore in a glorious mix of emerald greens and frothy whites. The colours, patterns, texture are all mesmerising. The ocean is always in flux and changing so the mind is always awake and intriguing. Waves vary in size due to the force and speed of the wind blowing over the surface, yet they move together in groups that move across the fluid surface at the same speed and in regular intervals. Ocean water is always in motion, yet it is interesting to note that an ocean wave is not representing a flow of water. While ocean waves transport energy over vast distances, only a small amount of water within the wave is actually moving in a horizontal direction.
