To most guests surprise the Coconut Palm Tree did not originate from Hawaii, but was brought over by the Polynesians who was familiar with the fruits of the coconut seed. Most like giants these palm trees can stand about one hundred feet tall. Other dwarf palm trees only grow to around ten feet tall. Popping out any where from thirty to seventy-five coconuts per year, palms trees spread pretty easily on its own. Aerodynamic these trees can stand up to very high winds and are extremely flexible and do not easily fall. This tree thrives here on the island and makes such a beautiful sunset landscape. It requires lots of sunlight, rain, and a sandy base of the ideal conditions for growth. The coconut seeds had to travel thousands of miles to reach Hawaii. Tied to the boats, being water resistant, and able to float, they made the journey easily. Nets would simply be tied to the boat with the seeds pulled along. Also the seeds can travel on there own from Island to Island, which is why most beaches have palm trees along the coastlines. Many items were brought to the Hawaiian Islands from boats and if the locals liked the items they would trade for them.
